Why I Started Little Boots, Big Goals

When I first started playing soccer, I can remember showing up to practice with the wrong equipment. My parents and my amazing coach scrambled to get it figured out before our first game. Looking back, it's a perfect example of how starting youth soccer can feel confusing for kids, parents, and coaches alike. That is exactly why I created Little Boots, Big Goals -to make those first steps into the sport a little less chaotic and a whole lot more fun.

I played soccer for 9 years before completely moving into coaching. I first coached as an assistant at a local town league for 4 years and now am the head coach for a small travel team for the past 4 years. Some of the kids I started coaching years ago and moved from the small town league with me to the travel team. It has been an incredible experience to watch the kids grow over the years on and off of the field.

I am also a pre-med student, but no matter how busy school gets, coaching remains one of the highlights of my week. Soccer has shaped who I am, and I want to give back by helping others enjoy it from the start.

This blog is mainly for coaches and parents of kids who are just starting soccer. Maybe you're unsure of which cleats to get or you don't know what "offside" actually means (don't worry you are not alone!). In the future you can expect things like:

  • Equipment Guides so you know whats worth the dough and whats not
  • Simple Drills for engaging and stress free practices
  • Rule Explanations so you can stop asking the parents next to you
  • General Tips so you have an overall positive experience
However, this is not just going to be a blog about me sharing what I know, I want to create a community where everyone joins in the conversation in a helpful and loving manner. Share your questions, funny stories, or the crazy challenges you have faced on game day.

Soccer is often a sport many kids play when they are young and the way the adults in their lives approach the sport matters. Together, we can make it an incredible experience for everyone.
If you are looking for some immediate help I highly suggest visiting US Youth Soccer for parents and Positive Coach Alliance for coaches.

For now, I would love to hear about your own soccer stories. What was your first game day like?
